The Midlife Vagina Whisperer
Hot Takes From My Conversation with Dr. Sherry Ross
Hi good peeps! We’re digging deep with our golden sh*t shovel and we’re getting a bit…personal. We’re going to talk all about vagina makeovers in the second half of life. We’re remixing midlife…so why not revamp our vaginas? I loved having Dr. Sherry Ross on the show because our conversation was filled with actionable items that will help your vagina look good, feel good, and be refreshed.
Dr. Sherry Ross, aka the Vagina Whisperer, is the author of two best-selling books, She-ology: The Definitive Guide to Women’s Intimate Health. Period and She-ology, The She-quel: Let’s Continue the Conversation. She gave us all the answers we need about getting to know yourself, advocating for your vaginal health, how to moisturize your vagina, how to get your vagina strong, and last, but definitely not least…pleasuring your vagina.
The Vagina In The Mirror
How will you know what’s “normal” if you never take a look for yourself? Grab a mirror, sit on the edge of the bed, and spread those legs. Your very own Georgia O’Keefe is truly a work of art that deserves admiration. Do it regularly so you can notice any changes.
Normalize Vaginal Wellness Routines
Yes, let’s normalize talking about your vagina! There is a stigma around the word "vagina"…heaven forbid we talk about our own vaginas!
This is why it's important to be your own advocate and know what's going on downstairs...if you know what I mean. Make sure you take the time to ask those important questions and don't rely on “Dr. Google” for all of the answers.
Schedule those important appointments with your doctor and stay on top of your own vaginal health. Make sure you are getting pap smears, colonoscopies, and any other needed tests. If your doctor isn't bringing it up, then ask when these appointments should happen.
If you empower yourself and gain knowledge around your vagina, you will be your own best advocate.
In Midlife, We Moisturize
It’s everyone’s favorite word…moist! By cleansing, hydrating, and moisturizing the vulva you can improve elasticity and rejuvenation. It’s very delicate, sensitive skin that you have to maintain. You can prevent a lot of premature aging and you'll have a lot less dryness, itchiness, and sensitivity around the outside of your vagina if you moisturize on a regular basis.
Moisturizing is key for women in midlife entering menopause and experiencing more dryness. Take care of it like you would take care of your face!
How To Moisturize Your Vagina:
Use extra virgin olive oil. Place a handful in a warm bath and soak for 20-30 minutes 3-5 times a week. The olive oil doesn't need to be anything fancy, just no fragrances.
Use a hyaluronic acid serum or supplement. Insert this nightly before bed, 3 nights a week.
Move Over, Peloton!
Don’t we all love a good workout? Your vagina is a muscle and, just like the rest of our body, it needs a workout!
How To Exercise Your Vagina:
Do 50 Kegels a day in sets of 10
If you don't know how to do a kegel, try it the next time you are going to the bathroom. Start to pee and then stop it midstream. This is the muscle you want to work during Kegels. You can do these anytime and anywhere. You could do them while you sit and read this post.
Weighted Kegel balls for extra help
Dr. Sherry even has a set of weighted Kegel balls! You can check them out at the end of this blog or on her website.
Have you ever experienced any leakage when running, jumping, or even sneezing? This is normal, but doing Kegel exercises will help regain control. Add in the extra weight and you will gain strength in no time!
Orgasms!
Is there any better way to get your exercise in than through an orgasm?
It raises your heart rate and relieves stress.
Did you know that 10-20% of women don't have orgasms?! What?!
A lot of it’s mental for women. So make sure you are in the moment.
Don’t Skimp On The Pleasure
Follow the “use it or lose it” philosophy here. This goes along with using a mirror and getting to know yourself a little better. Take your pleasure seriously, so you can know what gets you going and you can relay the message to your partner.
Tips for Pleasure & Play:
You can bring a vibrator into the bedroom to get the job done. This works well for a lot of women. Vibrators also bring healthy blood flow to the area and to the uterus which helps keep everything in tip top shape.
You don't have to do everything all at once. Pick one thing and make it a habit. Then gradually add in the other tips and before you know it your vagina will be looking and feeling better than ever! It's never too late to start taking control of your health. You can still revamp your vagina well into your second half of life!

Lady Parts is hosted by Sarah Hyland from Modern Family, and Dr. Sherry herself. It’s a roundtable-style show where they talk to guests about feminine health, sex, and a lot on topics in this post.
I loved reliving this episode with Dr. Sherry. It goes to show that our midlife remix can upgrade our pleasure, self intimacy, and vaginal health. I hope you’re feeling inspired and more than a little bit curious about where your vagina can take you in midlife.
