Creating a Life & Skin That Glows in Midlife

8 Recommendations to Living Your Best Life

We are going to dig deep with our golden sh*t shovels as we dive into a conversation I had with Cayli Cavaco Reck. Cayli lets us in on how she started her business and how her specialized treatments have helped so many women be more confident in their own skin, in the second half of life.

Cayli Cavaco Reck is a mom, beauty expert, and Founder & CEO of Knockout Beauty. She started an Instagram account called Knocking on 40... documenting her own skincare routine, sharing useful tips and inspiring quotes. As Cayli worked with fashion and beauty companies on branding, she started learning about skin function, ingredients, formulations, new scientific advances, even the ways hormones can affect how skin behaves. Her social media success grew into a brick-and-mortar beauty store, Knockout Beauty, with locations in NYC, Bridgehampton, and Los Angeles. Today, she is continuing to grow and expand Knockout Beauty, creating a franchise with stores across the US.

We are talking about all the ways to take care of YOU in midlife. We are going to learn how to become comfortable with who we are in midlife. Cayli is also going to share her top tips for having a vision, believing in yourself, and how part of taking care of ourselves is prioritizing our skincare. Cayli says it best…just as we are entering the stage in our lives where we start to feel comfortable in our own skin…. it starts to sag. So what can we do about it?

Cayli’s Top 8 Recommendations to Living Your Best Life

  • Become comfortable with who you are. We are entering midlife…the stage where you suddenly become comfortable with who you are as a person. Maybe you are starting to feel like you are ready for a change or to take a chance on something new and you don’t give a f#%k what anyone else thinks about it. Just remember as you start to become comfortable with who you are there is always going to be judgment from someone with whatever you chose to do. Find your truth and do you!

  • Always keep doors open. Stay curious and connected to the people and things you love. Try not to lose yourself in the process of following the labels that you were given. You can be mom, wife, and employee, but still, focus on you. We all go through seasons of life where we may focus more on being mom or employee, but always keep those doors open for when you enter the next season of life.

  • Have the belief to get started and the vision to keep it going. What is your next step? Have the belief that you can start something new and create the vision to keep going. You don’t have to have a vision to get started, but you do have to have belief.

Sometimes you just have to go with what feels natural or what feels good. At this point in your life, it's going to be very hard to keep doing something that you don't like. It may not be easy, but you have to stay motivated to stick with it. There are going to be moments where it feels like a grind, but that’s what makes it worth it. Create something that makes you wake up every morning and you can’t wait to start your day.

  • Where does your toxic load come from? Your overall toxic load comes from a myriad of things. It comes from the food you eat, where you live, the things you clean your home with, the products you use to wash your clothes, what you use to wash your hair, and the things you put on your skin. You need to be careful that you aren’t overloading your body with toxins.

It also depends on your own biochemistry. Some people are incredibly good at detoxing whereas some people are not. Take into consideration your own detoxing process when determining what products are safe for your household and yourself.

  • Create a skincare routine. When caring for your skin you need to create a flexible formula. Everyone is different and there are so many variables to be aware of. You should create a routine that is reflective of your diet, exercise, and where you live. Your skincare routine and what is best for your skin could be different from your best friend or co-worker.

You may find that your skincare routine will need some tweaking along the way, but creating a basic simple routine that you know you can follow is a great place to start. A routine that you know you can stick with is key. Move slowly through the process so you can determine what is going to work for you. A simple routine may look like starting with a cleanser, toner, essence serum, moisturizer, oil, and sunscreen.

  • Do’s and don’t of oils. There are some things you should be aware of if you are using oils. If you have melasma you are not a candidate for putting oil on your face during the day. Rosacea doesn’t like oil, but acne does. But what if you want that dewy glow to your skin? Cayli reminded us that the number one way to get your skin to glow is from within. However, exfoliation will also help…in moderation!

  • Take care of your skin to avoid sagging. Taking care of your skin to make sure it is strong is the key to avoiding sagging. The stronger your skin the less you should notice brown spots, rosacea, and other problem areas. You can help sagging by making sure you are massaging your face regularly. Adding in vitamin A and C will also help do the trick!

  • Wear your sunscreen! Protect your skin by wearing sunscreen daily. Cayli says that you should put your sunscreen on, then your makeup, and end by putting another layer of sunscreen on. How do we do this without messing up our makeup? Now there are amazing sprays that just go over the top! Check out Cayli’s website for her favorite!

We dug deep with our golden sh*t shovels and talked all about what we can do to make not only our skin glow but our life as well. In midlife there starts to be a whole new set of problems we seem to face. From figuring out if there is more to life and how to take care of ourselves and our skin. Follow Cayli’s recommendations and you are sure to figure out how to start living your best life!
